Ph.D. Candidate in Linguistics at the University of California, Santa Barbara

Alexia Z. Fawcett

I take a discourse-functional approach to language work and incorporate phenomena that are often considered marginal to the linguistic system (like ideophones and gesture) in my analyses.

I mainly work with speakers of Wao Terero, a language spoken in the Ecuadorian Amazon region. My M.A. research focused on the use of ideophones and my dissertation investigates the encoding of space, place, and landscape in the language. (see more here)
